Conservation of Cinema Posters

Majority of old vintage posters are damaged due to improper storage, folds, acidity, tears and stains.

Treatment of cinema posters may include:

• Solubility tests
• Surface consolidation
• Surface cleaning
• Tape and adhesive removal
• Removal of harmful backing materials
• Removal/reduction of spots (foxing) staining and discolouration
• Removal and treatment of mould and insect attack
• Flattening (removal/reduction of distortions)
• Tear repairs
• Lining onto Secondary Supports such as archival acid free paper, cloth or linen
• Remounting in archival materials
• Provision of advice regarding works on paper care, mounting and display
• Provision of documentation (condition assessments and treatment reports)
